Orange and Blue

Orange and blue - A student colour exercise by JVL, 1960.

This is one of three paintings in gouache in which, as students, we had to use the three main pairs of complimentary colours - red/green, violet/yellow, and, in this case, orange and blue. We were allowed to use 4 pigments - blue, orange, black and white. The purpose was to see how varied the colours can be moderated when mixed with each other; just using four 'colours'.
